Hey larry, you put a lot of emphasis on counterlooping for the higher level players. What are some drills that you are doing with all these young cadets that they are able to counter loop so well so close to the table and far from the table. I notice more and more players pushing aggressively, taking a step back and looping the slow loop they are given from the push.

Re: Counterlooping

awesome thanks. ya your students crushed me at baltimore this year because of their ability to counterloop. watching some division b players, it seems like nobody blocks unless they absolutely have to. so many share some drills/ideas for counterlooping besides just knocking it back and forth with another player 8 feet from teh table until someone misses-- especially frustrating when no one in your club has the ability to get more than 5 back.

Re: Counterlooping

Wow, talk about a perfect topic for a Tip of the Week! I've got several others planned, but I like this one. I wrote an article on Counterlooping, but it was about how to counterloop, not how to develop the shot. I've spent a huge amount of time recently with students, working on their counterloops, and there are some really nice ways that few players (and many coaches) don't use. Many players train to counterloop only certain types of balls, and wonder why they miss against others. Stay tuned; it'll be up next Monday.
