Larry,

I was talking with another senior (over 60) player yesterday and he expressed an interest in going to a training camp of some sort.  He said he had even thought about going to China.  I strongly suggested he stay in the US if is really most interested in the TT and not the travel experience.  MDTTC was one of the places I suggested he look into.

He is probably rated around USATT 1500.  He is very physically fit, but does have some mobility limits due to some problems with a foot/ankle.  He said he was interested in something around a week long camp although he would consider something shorter.  Based on you last blog I think he would be more interested in a training camp type event rather than a clinic or class.

So do you have any upcoming training camps (or clinics)  that might be the most appropriate for him?  Heck if you make it sound really good I might even be tempted to join him.

Mark

Hi Mark,

We used to run an annual senior camp. The first couple of years there was a good turnout, then it dropped, and we eventually stopped doing it. The junior camps always fill up, and so that's what we focus on. They aren't really "junior camps," but they are 90-95% kids. Seniors and others are welcome, as long as they'll feel comfortable training with lots of very fast kids.

Thanks Larry.  I will pass the info on to him.  I think he has relatives in your part of the country (at least not too far from you) so he may still be interested if he can combine a TT trip with a visit to the relatives.

Although most camps will take almost anyone with money, I believe seniors would benifit more by taking individual lessons.  A well respected coach told me that we (I) have problems that group classes won't fix.  Focusing on and fixing our individual flaws is what we need.  I've been to 3 five day camps.  When I left the camps I felt great, but months later I still had the same problem.  Like you Mark, I have a long drive to get private lessons, but those lessons seem to stick.  Good luck.

See you at the Nationals.
